Starting a Small Business

It is very exciting when you dream of starting a small business. Especially when your new business evolves around something you are passionate about. But, before you even start, ask yourself some honest questions.

1. Is there enough of a demand in your area to obtain enough customers to sustain your business financially?

2. Do you have the background in running your small business? Have you had  management, bookkeeping, or tax experience or are you going to hire someone? Is that affordable?

3. Do you know how to license your small business along with all the other government regulations?

4. Is it going to be a brick and mortar commercial building or are you going to run it from your home?

5. How and by whom is it going to be financed?  Do you have any capital saved? Are you credit worthy? Are you good with your own personal finances?

6. Are your employees going to be a 1040 or 1099 tax status?

7. Are you very laid back? Is your type of personality conducive in being able to handle the chaos that can come along with opening a small business?

The key for your small business to succeed is knowledge. If any of these questions are answered “I don’t know” than finding out these answers are imperative to your success rate. These questions are not mentioned to detour your desire to open a business. They are asked to make sure that you are ready to start your own small business.

Knowing these answers or having the forthright in finding the answers, really is the first step in being a success in starting your own small business. It takes a lot of know how and planning, a lot of time, money and an extreme amount of conviction on your part. There are many places, such as colleges, where you can take courses to learn what you need to know.
