Are you a business leader? Do you want to become a more effective one? Solid business leaders are conscientious of how they apply their words and behavior toward motivating and inspiring their employees. Good business leaders are conscious and aware of their environment and their employees. These business leaders can help increase the company’s production just by being conscious of how their behavior can impact their employees. In Dale Carnegie’s book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, he discusses different tactics in how to lead. A few of these tactics will be further discussed.

You want to begin by praising your employees and offer honest appreciation. It’s best to recognize your employees for their strengths and their accomplishments. This makes employees feel good and want to strive harder. By expressing gratitude for their past work, you are also generating more reasons for your employees to continue performing well in the future.

Talk about your own mistakes prior to criticizing an employee. Letting your employees know your own mistakes can be a humbling experience. This also softens the blow prior to having your employees criticized. In a way, you are also relating past experiences to the situation and letting them know that everything will be all right. If your employee makes a mistake, it’s important to focus on the solution, rather than the mistake itself. Make the mistake seem like it’s easy to fix. If a mistake leads to complications, learn to break the solution down.

Ask questions instead of giving orders to your employees. No one likes to be ordered around, especially in the workplace. Questions soften a command. It also helps employees come to their very own conclusions. Learn to ask questions is a great way to begin discussions and perhaps find an even more effective way to get the job done.
